Team “GAF” Rating

<aside> 💡 GAF is the MPL's rating system, based on the ELO system commonly used in chess (on Earth). A team's GAF rating is represented by a number which may change depending on the outcome of games played. After every game, the winning team takes points from the losing one. If the higher-rated team wins, then only a few rating points will be taken from the lower-rated team. However, if the lower-rated team scores an upset, many rating points will be transferred. The lower-rated team will also gain a few points from the higher rated team in the event of a draw. This means that this rating system is self-correcting. Teams whose ratings are too low or too high should, in the long run, do better or worse correspondingly than the rating system predicts and thus gain or lose rating points until the ratings reflect their true playing strength.

A team's initial GAF rating for their first game will be based on the average skill level of their players, to provide a rough initial seeding. There will be three initial levels:

Some competitions and tournaments may be gated by GAF rating, with the ultimate Martian Premier League taking in the top X teams based on GAF each season (exact number of teams tbc).

Prof. Gaffer likes this rather elegant solution as it allows comparison of teams, even if they aren’t playing in a round-robin league structure, and allows for team churn if people stop playing for a period of time.

Players will compete in our competitive modes against people of similar GAF ratings – allowing each competition to be competitive, but also providing a measure of long-term success as a manager. This balances the desire for individuals to progress while ensuring matches and modes are competitive.

Although there will be several different competitive modes – your GAF rating will move across all these modes. However, there will be the option for you to engage in non-rated matches when you want to play against friends (COMING SOON).

Leaderboards

At launch of Head 2 Heads there will be leaderboards tracking team, player and manager performance.

See how you and your team(s) are stacking up versus the competition, as well as how your legendary centre forward is performing vs other comparable players. Are you managing your players to excellence or are they underperforming vs others around you?

Perhaps your ability to analyse the data even enables you to spot a diamond in the rough, and make a critical transfer into your team!
