Now you are ready to compete! Let’s find you some worthy competition.
Head 2 Head matches take place every day at 3pm EST, with opponents revealed at 1pm. Each team can compete in one match per day.
There are two routes to finding a Head 2 Head opponent.
Send a direct challenge
Know exactly which team or manager you want to play today? Maybe you want to take on some stiff competition, and test your skills against a stronger team. Maybe you want to see if you can squash a team’s unbeaten winning streak…
Send them a challenge direct and see if they’re manager enough to accept!
Let the system find you an opponent
If you’re not sure let us find you the perfect opponent to go up against. We’ll find you a team of a similar skill level to play against, and if there isn’t a manager owned team available, you’ll play against one of Gaffer’s very own fully synthetic teams.

Your strategy is a combination of:
Your line-up. Who’s going to make your starting 11, and how will you structure your subs?
Your set-piece takers. It’s your choice who takes your penalties, free kicks and corners. If you fail to choose, whoever’s closest to the ball is up.
Your captain. Who will be sporting the captains armband for today’s game? Captains face off both at the start and at half-time in every match - whichever captain wins the face-off will benefit from their team having a boost for that half. Make sure you have an assigned captain on your team to get an edge on the competition.
Attitude - do you want to play more aggressively, more balanced, or more defensive?
Play styles* - choose how you want to play when your team is attacking (they have possession) and when your team is defending (when they are out of possession). Your choices are pitted against your opponents choices at the start of every game, with each winning decision giving that team a boost for the duration of the match. The diagram below illustrates which tactics will win out over others.
