Intro.

Happy Friday all, and what a week it has been. The MPL Cup beta has come to a close and our winning teams are currently celebrating their victories. The MPL Team is also celebrating these victories by collecting feedback and continuing to build the future of the project. The work doesn’t stop here! We’re excited to share this week’s update, and even more excited to connect with the community next week in the town hall.

MPL Cup Recap.

It’s Not Easy

In December 2022 the road to the MPL Cup officially began. The team worked to enlist eventual Secret (and not-so-Secret) Managers, as the countdown to February began. Several intrepid community members joined testing sessions right before the holidays, and dev work accelerated after the New Year to meet the February launch date.

As kickoff neared, the number of Cup-ready teams exceeded 600!

Solid Start

Mid-February kicked off the cup on Mars, and teams began their group stage matches. On the Rocks hit Martian airwaves for the first time, amid chatter of tactics and play styles and boosts–oh, my! Each team was guaranteed 5 matches but strategy was still key, with boosts: use boosts, or save them?

Fair Play

Every match day saw new additions to the match engine or user experience. Whether it was tweaking the match reports, adding in-world mystery with disruptive events, or predictions from Pundit Pete and Teeba, Adam, Dan, and team worked feverishly to move the Manager experience forward with every match.
